Port Loko, Sierra Leone – Authorities are investigating the abduction of a six-day-old infant from the Port Loko Regional Hospital in the early hours of Monday, April 21, 2025.
The newborn was one of twins delivered via cesarean section to Aminata Kargbo, a resident of Komrambia Village in the Kasseh Chiefdom. Ms. Kargbo was still receiving post-operative care when the incident occurred.
According to hospital reports, an unidentified woman had appeared at the hospital on Easter Sunday, seemingly assisting with the care of the newborns. Hospital staff reportedly believed she was a visiting family member. The woman disappeared during the night, taking one of the infants. A mobile phone belonging to the suspect was found at the scene and is now in the custody of police investigators.
The abduction was immediately reported to hospital authorities and confirmed by the Sierra Leone Police. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for the Northwest Region and the Police Cyber Unit have launched a joint investigation. Forensic analysis of the recovered mobile phone is currently underway as detectives work to identify the suspect and locate the missing child.
The father of the twins has filed an official complaint at the Port Loko Police Station. Ward Councilor Ibrahim Fofanah, also known as Anderson, has confirmed an increased police presence at the hospital and assured the community that all possible efforts are being made to ensure the safe return of the abducted infant.
