In a shocking incident, a severe fire erupted at the Sierra Leone State House on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 4:00 PM, attributed to electrical malfunctioning. The blaze significantly damaged the upper sections of the historic building, primarily affecting the 3rd and 4th floors.
Sierra Leone’s Chief Fire Officer, Nazir Ahmad Alie Kamanda Bongay, revealed the preliminary findings of the investigation, clarifying that the fire originated on the 3rd floor due to an electrical appliance malfunction. Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, confirmed the Chief Fire Officer’s assessment, emphasizing the destructive impact of the incident on the State House.
On the following day, Sunday, April 13, 2025, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh conducted an on-site inspection to evaluate the damage. He received a comprehensive briefing on the emergency response measures that had been implemented following the outbreak.
