Supreme Court Judge Hon. Justice Abdulai M. Bangura (JSC) presided over the October Criminal Session in Bonthe District, Southern Province, where he sentenced fifteen convicts for various offences. This session concluded with significant progress on a total of thirty-three completed cases from a larger docket of seventy-nine cases under adjudication.
Among the convictions, Amid Sheku received a 12-month prison sentence for Wounding with Intent. Ibrahim Senesie was sentenced to 10 months for a two-count charge of wounding, with both sentences running concurrently. Alimamy Mansaray and David Cole were each sentenced to two years for Conspiracy to Commit Larceny and Killing Cattle. Other notable sentences included Munda Bangalie, who received 10 months for Fraudulent Conversion, and Morrison Amara, sentenced to 22 months for House Breaking and Larceny. Sallu Koroma was sentenced to two years and ordered to pay NLe 20,000 in compensation for fraudulently converting funds for the purchase of over sixty bags of Garri. Mannah Bockarie and Mussa Kargbo each received 15 years for Sexual Penetration, while Alicious Momodu Mbayoh received a 10-year sentence for the same offence.
The High Court Criminal Sessions, established under the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965, aims to expedite the trial process for accused persons committed by Magistrates’ Courts. The proceedings were prosecuted by State Counsel Ballah Sesay, with the defendants represented by Abu Kuntar Jawara from the Legal Aid Board.
