In a dramatic turn of events, James Freeman, a student, faced serious charges of fraudulent conversion after his brother, DPC 11018 Aron N. Dumbuya, a police officer, testified against him in court. The proceedings took place before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2.
Freeman is accused of failing to return valuable items entrusted to him by Honorable Musa Tarawally, a prominent political figure. The prosecution alleges that between January and December 2023, at No. 5 Lizzy Drive, Juba Pipeline, Freeman failed to return four HP laptops, a Dell computer, two plasma televisions, and other items valued at 78,100 leones.
Dumbuya, the prosecution’s key witness, testified that Freeman received the items for safekeeping but did not return them. He confirmed that only one laptop was recovered, along with a damaged television that the complainant did not recognize. Dumbuya further stated that he informed Honorable Tarawally of Freeman’s inability to return the items and noted that despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, Freeman did not comply, prompting police intervention.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Dialla Wellington, representing the prosecution, argued against granting bail, citing the seriousness of the offense. Defense lawyer V.S. Nabie Esq. requested bail for Freeman, but Magistrate Bangura denied the request.
