Richard Breima has been charged with robbery with violence and assault following an alleged attack on a prominent businessman in Kenema.

The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, October 3, 2024, around 8:00 p.m. at Gava Forestry Quarters in the Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District. The victim, Abdulai Darboh, President of the Scrap Metal Association, reported that he was robbed of $16,000, Le 20,000, and a silver wristwatch. Additional stolen items included five jerry cans valued at Le 3,080, thirty-nine gas bottles worth Le 216,500, and 5,000 kilos of aluminum zinc.

Darboh, accompanied by his colleague Almamy Mansaray of No. 18 Nico Lane, Kissy, reported the incident to the police the following day, detailing that he had been physically assaulted during the robbery and sustained injuries. A suspect known as “Ground,” whose real name is Yassanch, was also mentioned in the report.

According to A-Z Newspaper, the police provided Darboh with a medical form and referred him to Kenema Government Hospital for treatment.

Breima faces an additional charge of assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861. The case was presented before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown. Prosecutor Alfred D. Williams, based at 19 Farma Street, Wellington, expressed familiarity with both the accused and the complainant, but his statement was interrupted by the emotional nature of the proceedings.

The court has adjourned the matter to May 26, 2025, for further hearings.
