Celebrating Academic Excellence: WARDC and MBSSE Honor Top Students

The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), hosted its annual awards ceremony on December 16, 2024, to recognize outstanding achievements in the 2023/2024 National Primary School Examination (NPSE), Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). 

Held in the Western Rural District, the event celebrated top-performing students, schools, and teachers, fostering a spirit of educational excellence across the region. Deputy Chairman of WARDC, Robert Brown, who represented Chairman Kasho J. Holland Cole, commended the honorees for their accomplishments. “Education remains a priority for WARDC,” Brown stated, emphasizing the council’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and praising teachers for their vital role in shaping the district’s future leaders.

The ceremony featured remarks from the Deputy District Director of Education for Western Rural, who highlighted the event as a significant motivator for academic success. Councilor Altimatu Kamara, Chairperson of WARDC’s Education Committee, expressed gratitude for educators’ dedication to raising educational standards in the district. Keynote speaker Martina Konya Baison, Gender Officer at WARDC, encouraged students to maintain focus, avoid violence, and report abuse, underscoring the importance of holistic development.

Awards were presented to Alfrain International School and Naihcom High School for their exemplary performance, while individual students were recognized for their outstanding achievements in categories such as Best Performing Schools and Best Results in NPSE, BECE, and WASSCE. Certificates of recognition were also awarded to WARDC leadership for their unwavering support of education, with special praise for Mohamed Momoh Foday, Development Planning Officer, for overseeing the event’s success.

This awards ceremony reflects the shared commitment of WARDC and MBSSE to foster a culture of academic excellence and inspire the next generation of leaders in Sierra Leone.
