Civil society organizations are gathering for a two-day National Conference focused on advancing genuine electoral reforms, peace, and national cohesion in Sierra Leone, taking place at the Sangri Hotel on Lumley Beach Road. The event kicked off today and will run through October 2, 2024.
Under the theme “Mobilizing the Civil Society Community towards Genuine Electoral Reforms, Peace, and National Cohesion,” the conference has attracted key stakeholders from across the country. It serves as a vital platform for discussing strategies to fortify Sierra Leone’s democratic institutions, especially in light of the challenges encountered during the recent 2023 elections.
Participants—including civil society leaders, government representatives, and international partners—are engaging in critical dialogue on issues such as electoral transparency, governance, and the promotion of national unity. The conference aims to foster collaboration on actionable plans to enhance the electoral process and cultivate a more inclusive political environment.
This gathering underscores the essential role of civil society in advocating for reforms that can ensure a fair and democratic electoral framework in Sierra Leone, paving the way for a more harmonious and participatory democracy.
