By: Edrie Caleb John

On Tuesday, September 3rd, Sam Sesay, a 22-year-old caretaker, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, facing two charges: Conspiracy to commit a crime and Larceny, contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.

The prosecution alleged that on August 20, 2024, Sesay conspired with unknown individuals to commit larceny at #5 Springer Street, off Johnson Street, Aberdeen, Freetown. The second count stated that Sesay stole Le150, 000, property of Joan Keister, CEO of Cotton Tree Foundation, a non-governmental organization.

Joan Keister, the complainant and Sesay’s employer, testified that she left Sesay in charge of her home and safe, containing Le150, 000, when she traveled to the UK. Upon her return, she found the money missing and the safe open. Sesay denied any knowledge of the missing funds, but later admitted to giving Le5, 000 to his younger brother from the safe.

The police arrested Sesay, and he was remanded in custody due to the nature of the offenses.

The matter was adjourned to September 6, 2024. Sesay was not legally represented during the proceedings.
