Dignity Now, a women and youth-led organization, has announced an ambitious €10,000 project dedicated to enhancing data-driven participation of women and youth in governance within Kenema district.

Unveiled during a media engagement event at the Right to Access Information Office in Kenema on April 2nd, 2025, the initiative is funded by the European Union. The gathering brought together prominent media executives, journalists, and digital influencers to foster collaboration aimed at amplifying the voices of marginalized groups.

The six-month project, titled “Promoting Data-driven Women and Youth Participation in Governance,” seeks to leverage data insights to foster greater involvement of women and youth in leadership roles and policy-making processes. Emmanuel D. Quee, Executive Director of Dignity Now, underscored the essential role of the media in shaping public opinion and driving policy changes. He highlighted the significance of accurate data in identifying gaps within governance structures that inhibit inclusivity.

“The media wields significant influence in policy formulation and public discourse,” stated Mr. Quee. “By leveraging data-driven journalism, we can effectively highlight the underrepresentation of women and young people in governance and advocate for policies that foster inclusivity.”

Mr. Quee elaborated that the project aims to enhance the decision-making processes of District Councils through the provision of data-driven insights. He believes these efforts will lead to more inclusive and equitable governance outcomes.

Dignity Now’s initiative centers on promoting the active inclusion of women and youth in governance and decision-making, utilizing strategic data applications. The organization anticipates that the project will address existing disparities, build trust in governance processes, and elevate accountability. Ultimately, they believe this will empower meaningful participation from women and youth in the region.
