In a significant move to empower persons with disabilities (PWDs), the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) has announced a comprehensive training initiative aimed at equipping 1,000 individuals with essential skills for employment.
This initiative was unveiled during a press conference on July 8, 2025, led by Brima Abdulai Sheriff, the newly appointed Chief Commissioner for the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Commissioner Sheriff introduced the PRIDE strategy—an acronym for Policy Engagements, Resilience, Inclusion, Dignity, and Empowerment. He stressed the need to transition this strategy from theoretical concepts to practical applications, ensuring that PWDs are not only empowered but also equipped with the necessary skills to thrive.
During his address, Sheriff highlighted the importance of fostering peace and unity within the disability community, emphasizing that stability is vital for achieving meaningful progress. The DSTI’s training program aims to enhance the employability of PWDs and promote their greater inclusion in society.
