Waterloo, Sierra Leone March 11, 2026: Eastern Farmers Agriculture and General Enterprise (EFAGE SL), a leading agro-business focused on providing high-quality fertilizers and poultry feeds, hosted its third annual capacity-building workshop for local poultry farmers at the West Area Rural District Council Hall in Waterloo. This event, conducted in collaboration with Dutch partner Hendrix of Nutreco, attracted around 150 poultry farmers from across the country.
The workshop aimed to enhance the skills of approximately 60 selected farmers through targeted training sessions and farm visits, where technical advice on effective farm management would be provided. Participants discussed their experiences with EFAGE SL feeds, enriched by Hendrix, as well as obstacles within the poultry value chain in Sierra Leone.
The event is part of the HendrixU4 Project, implemented by Nutreco Africa BV, which seeks to bolster food security in selected developing nations, including Sierra Leone.
Sahr Lahai Jusu, Executive Chairman of EFAGE, stated that the workshop’s purpose is to build on the successes of previous training sessions, facilitate knowledge sharing among farmers, and strengthen resilience within the poultry sector.
The one-day workshop covered essential topics, including poultry husbandry and farm management, nutritional practices, local feed formulation, farm hygiene, biosecurity, health management, data collection, record-keeping, and financial management, including the use of the Hendrix Layer Genius software.
Desmond Moses Kamara elaborated on EFAGE’s feed production processes, highlighting the various types of raw materials used and the increasing production capacity.
Feedback from participating farmers was overwhelmingly positive. Mbayo Koroma, a poultry farmer from Bo, noted that his farm, which houses over two thousand birds, has seen significant productivity improvements thanks to EFAGE’s feed. Similarly, Madam Sitta Kai Kai from Kono expressed gratitude for the technical guidance received, stating that it has led to greater efficiency in her farming operations.
The workshop concluded with a collective commitment among participants to implement the skills learned and foster further collaboration for the advancement of the poultry industry in Sierra Leone.
