George Brown, a prisoner who escaped during the failed coup attempt on November 26, 2023, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Monday, facing serious charges of wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charges stem from an alleged knife attack on businessman Mohamed Alie Bah on March 14, 2025, in the Kroo Town Road area of Freetown. Reports indicate that Brown, who had been serving a sentence at Pademba Road Prison for a prior knife attack on his uncle, is accused of maliciously wounding Bah in the lower left eye.

During the proceedings, the complainant, Mohamed Alie Bah, testified that he knew the accused through his brother, Ibrahim Bah. He recounted an incident on March 14 when his brother informed him that he had entrusted Brown with 7,000 Leones, which Brown failed to deliver. After locating Brown on Adelaide Street, Bah and his brother apprehended him, discovering new mobile phones, a watch, clothes, and the missing money in his possession. These items were subsequently handed over to the Adelaide Street Police Station as evidence.

Bah alleged that the following day, Brown visited his home demanding the return of his belongings. When directed to the police station instead, Brown reportedly threatened to kill him. Later that day, while engaging in conversation with a man named Abdulai, Brown allegedly stabbed Bah in the lower left eye with a knife, resulting in significant bleeding before fleeing the scene.

Following the attack, Brown was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station. Bah received medical treatment at Connaught Hospital and presented both an endorsed medical report and his statement to the police.

In court, the unrepresented George Brown conducted his own cross-examination of the complainant. Magistrate Santigie Bangura ordered Brown to be remanded in custody, and the case has been adjourned until April 15, 2025, for further proceedings.
