Falaba District Women’s Network Graduates Young Empowerment Program Participants

The Falaba District Women’s Network has successfully conducted a graduation ceremony for young girls and boys who completed the Girl Shine and Engaging Adolescent Boys on Accountable Practice (EABAP) programs. The event took place across several communities, including Tumania, Serekolia, and Kombile in Morifindugu Chiefdom, as well as Ganya and Simithia in Kabelia Chiefdom.

During the ceremony, Executive Director Madam Fatmata B. Turay highlighted the organization’s commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of women and girls. She emphasized the network’s collaboration with NGOs to enhance empowerment and protection for young individuals, particularly girls in the district.

The training initiative supported 250 girls through the Girl Shine program and 125 boys through EABAP. This effort was funded by IRISH AID via the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as part of the Adolescent Girls Empowerment and Protection Project (AGEPP) Phase 2.

Madam Turay explained that the Girl Shine program spans three years and targets vulnerable girls, equipping them with essential life skills, self-confidence, and self-protection strategies. In contrast, the EABAP program lasts for one year and five months, training boys to become allies to girls and women, thereby fostering respect and promoting gender equality within their communities.

Program Manager Mr. Momodu Samura expressed gratitude to all participants for their commitment and encouraged them to utilize their newly acquired skills to effect positive change in their communities.

The Falaba District Women’s Network remains dedicated to empowering young people through education, training, and advocacy, ensuring a brighter future for both girls and boys in the district.
