Freetown, Sierra Leone – The drug store of Sierra Leone’s 34 Military Hospital was engulfed in flames during the early hours of Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The incident occurred at a medical facility currently undergoing upgrades, which plays a crucial role in the nation’s healthcare system by providing medical services while focusing on research, training, and specialized care.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire reportedly originated from the medical store, where essential medicines were housed. The National Fire Force swiftly responded to the emergency, containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to other parts of the hospital. As of the latest updates, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
This incident adds to a concerning trend, with a growing number of fire outbreaks recently reported across Sierra Leone, sparking serious worries about public safety, infrastructure resilience, and emergency preparedness. Just days earlier, a similar fire outbreak was reported at State House, the official residence of Sierra Leone’s President in Freetown.
