In Conakry, Foreign Minister Timothy Kabba met with Guinea’s Head of State, Col. Mamadi Dumbuya, to address a recent diplomatic impasse stemming from the seizure of cocaine linked to the embassy.

According to reports from Sierraloaded, the high-level delegation, led by Minister Kabba, traveled to Guinea to investigate the January 13, 2025, incident in which Guinean authorities impounded an embassy vehicle. The vehicle’s driver and another passenger were apprehended on suspicion of possessing cocaine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that seven suitcases containing cocaine and $2,000 were allegedly found in the embassy vehicle. This incident has raised public concern, particularly given prior reports of citizen involvement in drug trafficking. In response, the government announced plans to recall Ambassador Alimamy Bangura for questioning and pledged a thorough investigation and prosecution of those implicated.

However, conflicting reports have emerged, with Guinean authorities asserting that the ambassador would not be allowed to leave Guinea and would face trial there. The government has not clarified the ambassador’s current status, leaving uncertainty regarding his whereabouts and the specifics of the intended recall.

As of now, the outcome of the investigation and the decisions made by both governments remain unclear, although it has been reported that no substantive evidence has linked Ambassador Bangura to any wrongdoing.

Both Minister Kabba and Ambassador Bangura have since returned home, and a press engagement is anticipated to provide further updates on the situation.
