Umaru Napoleon Koroma, the former National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has firmly denied claims regarding the disappearance of funds from the party’s accounts during his tenure.
In a statement addressing a viral social media video, Koroma described the allegations as “baseless” and emphasized that all financial transactions made under his leadership adhered to proper protocols and were backed by legitimate documentation.
Although Koroma did not specify the source of these claims, it is widely believed he is responding to a video in which the First Lady reportedly stated that she deposited 1 billion Leones into the party’s accounts. To clarify these matters, Koroma has invited the new party executive to conduct a forensic audit of his time in office. “I am confident that such an examination will validate the integrity and transparency with which we managed the party’s finances,” he stated, referencing the 1 million new Leones raised during a fundraising event at the Bintumani Conference.
He further cautioned party leaders and stakeholders to be mindful of internal discourse that could undermine those who have served during challenging periods. Koroma remarked that such rhetoric threatens the unity of the SLPP and called on members to “tone down” their statements. He urged them to focus on the critical task of securing victory in the upcoming 2028 elections to uphold the legacy of President Julius Maada Bio.
“We all have a duty to communicate constructively, truthfully, and in the best interest of the SLPP,” Koroma asserted. He concluded by reiterating his commitment to support the party whenever needed, emphasizing his enduring dedication to its success.
