The Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation announced the certification of four chiefdoms as Open Defecation Free (ODF), just in time for World Toilet Day. The chiefdoms—Kargboro, Lokomasama, Wara Wara Yagala, and Kulor Seradu—are being recognized for their successful efforts to eliminate open defecation, a crucial step toward improving public health and sanitation.
During a press briefing, Acting Director of Environmental Sanitation Dauda Kamara highlighted the Ministry’s achievements, noting that 21 chiefdoms have achieved ODF status over the past two years. He discussed the implementation of the “City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation Plan,” a strategy that has shown success in other countries.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Dr. Sao Kpato Max-Kyne expressed pride in the certification, emphasizing its significance for universal access to safe sanitation. “This is not just about recognition; it’s about showcasing our progress toward sustainable sanitation,” she said.
The announcement marks a pivotal moment as the world prepares to observe World Toilet Day, an occasion dedicated to raising awareness of sanitation’s critical role in public health and environmental sustainability.
