A tragic building collapse at Pentagon, Off Regent Road in Freetown, has resulted in the recovery of two bodies, as confirmed by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA). The incident occurred around 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 1, 2025, involving a three-storey building that was under construction.

At approximately 1:00 AM on Monday, June 2, 2025, the bodies of the contractor and one of his workers were successfully extracted from the rubble after extensive rescue efforts. Despite the tireless work of the NDMA, Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Gento Group of Companies, Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, and Freetown City Council (FCC), both men were found lifeless after being trapped beneath concrete and debris for several hours.

Following credible accounts from survivors and eyewitnesses, the NDMA has concluded that there are no remaining individuals trapped under the rubble and has officially ended the search and rescue operations.

The NDMA extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and expresses sincere gratitude to all partners and first responders who contributed to the recovery efforts.

Investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing, and the public will be kept informed of any developments.
