Freetown City Council and QCELL Forge Partnership to Enhance Municipal Services

The Freetown City Council (FCC) is in discussions to establish a strategic partnership with telecommunications provider QCELL, aimed at modernizing municipal service delivery and enhancing digital outreach to residents.

During a meeting held on *February 23, *Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr and the Deputy Chief Administrator welcomed a QCELL delegation led by CEO Jayamani Karthik to explore collaborative opportunities.

A primary objective of the partnership is to modernize revenue collection systems within the city. The FCC and QCELL intend to enhance digital payment solutions for property rates, local taxes, and business licenses, facilitating smoother transactions for both residents and businesses in Freetown.

In addition to financial services, the discussions focused on utilizing QCELL’s telecommunications infrastructure to bolster public health and sanitation efforts. The partnership aims to amplify awareness for the FCC’s ongoing *”#DortiMusGo” sanitation campaign, with strategies including the deployment of bulk SMS to efficiently reach residents and promote the city’s *8244 toll-free sanitation hotline.

Furthermore, the meeting explored potential technological advancements that could support the educational and medical sectors, particularly the role of QCELL in aiding municipal nursing schools through innovative digital learning initiatives.

This partnership marks a significant step towards enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of municipal services in Freetown, reflecting a commitment to leveraging technology for community betterment.
