The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), in collaboration with the National Civil Aviation Facilitation Committee (NCAFC), has implemented new public health safety measures at Freetown International Airport (FNA) due to a recent surge in Mpox cases across the country.
Key actions include the installation of thermal imaging cameras at the terminal entrance to scan the body temperature of individuals entering the building. Those with elevated temperatures will be referred to the airport’s medical unit for further evaluation, adhering to guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
Additionally, alcohol-based hand sanitizer stations have been placed throughout the terminal to promote hygiene. To protect staff, 300 airport personnel have received Mpox vaccinations, with efforts underway to ensure comprehensive coverage.
The SLCAA urges all passengers and the public to maintain safe distancing within the airport, emphasizing that “collective vigilance is essential to maintaining a safe travel environment for all airport users.”
