The Freetown City Council (FCC) has made a significant advancement in aligning its “Freetown the Treetown” (FTT) project with the international carbon market. A strategic meeting held on March 14, 2025, focused on the project’s progress in enhancing climate resilience and promoting urban reforestation.
The meeting was led by the technical advisor for the FTT project’s carbon initiative, who presented key findings from a recent feasibility study and business case. These insights provided a robust assessment of the viability and potential impact of the FTT carbon project. This engagement represents a critical milestone in ensuring the initiative meets international carbon market standards, thereby promoting its long-term sustainability.
The FCC emphasized that “Freetown the Treetown” serves as a leading model for urban communities aiming to tackle the effects of climate change through climate resilience and urban reforestation. The analysis conducted by First Climate has provided valuable insights into the project’s feasibility and its prospective role within the carbon market.
