Freetown, Sierra Leone – On November 24, 2025, the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Sierra Leone Police announced a significant partnership with the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) aimed at strengthening efforts against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) nationwide.

This collaboration highlights a united front in the fight against SGBV, fostering cross-sectoral cooperation between law enforcement and military personnel.

The partnership was formalized during a high-level meeting at the Office of the Director of Gender at Cockerill Military Headquarters, where senior officials from both organizations gathered to discuss initiatives. The focus was on creating tailored awareness programs for military personnel and reinforcing their understanding of Sierra Leone’s legal frameworks regarding SGBV.

The RSLAF Gender Directorate has committed to providing a detailed sensitization schedule to the FSU and plans to extend awareness sessions to military recruits at the Benguema Military Training Centre and various provincial deployment sites.

Additionally, both entities pledged to participate jointly in the upcoming 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, reinforcing their shared dedication to eradicating SGBV.

The collaboration underscores the integration of SGBV sensitization into military training and operations, emphasizing that addressing this issue is a responsibility shared by both policing and military forces. It reflects Sierra Leone’s commitment to gender equality, human rights, and fostering a safer environment through united action.
