Sierra Leone has successfully negotiated a €28.2 million grant from the German government aimed at bolstering healthcare services and advancing renewable energy projects. This significant agreement was finalized on October 23, 2025, during discussions in Berlin between a Sierra Leonean delegation led by Kenye Barlay, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Dr. Patrick Kormawa, Director of Food Security at the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security (PI-CREF).
The funding will support key initiatives outlined in Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP), with a focus on strengthening national health systems and expanding access to clean energy. Minister Barlay emphasized that this grant marks a pivotal opportunity to enhance cooperation with Germany and accelerate the nation’s commitment to resilience and inclusive growth.
Officials noted that Barlay’s proactive approach in fostering international partnerships underscores his dedication to advancing Sierra Leone’s development goals. This grant is part of the government’s broader strategy to harness global collaborations for sustainable development and improved service delivery across critical sectors.
