Government and China Forge Partnership to Empower Youth through Electric Mobility

In a groundbreaking move to enhance youth empowerment in Sierra Leone, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Economic and Commercial Counseling Center at the Sierra Leonean embassy in Guangzhou, China. This significant agreement aims to equip the nation’s youth with essential skills and resources in the emerging electric vehicle sector.

The MOU outlines the provision of 500 electric cars, 1,000 bicycles, and 500 tricycles, along with the establishment of a cutting-edge technical training facility focused on electric vehicle technology. Minister Sannoh highlighted the initiative’s crucial role in cultivating a skilled workforce to support the growing electric vehicle industry, which is expected to drive economic growth and enhance living standards for young Sierra Leoneans.

“This initiative is in line with the President’s ‘Big 5’ agenda, which prioritizes youth employment and the development of human capital,” Sannoh stated. He also emphasized the importance of fostering responsible investment in Sierra Leone to effectively address the needs of the nation’s expanding youth population.

The signing of the MOU underscores the strengthening of bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and China. Minister Sannoh reiterated the necessity for infrastructure and industrial projects to be complemented by human resource development and skills transfer, ensuring sustainable progress for future generations.
