Bombali District, Sierra Leone – Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has officially inaugurated a 2,500-hectare private farm in Makari Chiefdom, Bombali District. The farm, owned by SierraTec and spearheaded by CEO Salieu Kanu, is a fully mechanized operation equipped with 15 tractors, three harvesters, and a rice mill.
This significant investment is part of a $10 million credit facility initiated by the government in collaboration with the Bank of Sierra Leone, aimed at bolstering private sector farming. SierraTec is one of the beneficiaries of this funding, focusing on expanding rice cultivation in the northern region through the FeedSalone program.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Kpaka met with representatives from the Islamic Development Bank in Freetown before traveling to Bombali for the farm’s launch. The Ministry of Agriculture has pledged to continue its support for private farms that contribute to the nation’s food production goals.
