Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Land, Housing, and Country Planning, has officially launched a land reclamation exercise within the designated boundary of the Tacugama Sanctuary, a recognized national tourist asset.
Initiated on February 26, 2025, the reclamation process aims to preserve the sanctuary’s status and optimize its use for both national and international tourism. This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to protect and enhance Sierra Leone’s natural resources.
The Ministry has called on individuals with legitimate land claims within the sanctuary to report to the Acting Professional Head and Director of Surveys and Lands for verification. This verification will occur over a 21-day period, from February 27 to March 19, 2025. Landowners and claimants who provide the necessary documentation will receive acknowledgment receipts.
The Ministry encourages full cooperation from all parties involved to ensure a smooth and transparent reclamation process. The Government of Sierra Leone has emphasized the significance of this initiative and appreciates the collaboration of all stakeholders.
