Prominent government officials and industry experts convened at the Sierra Leone Innovates 2025 summit from June 4 to 6, 2025, to strategize the future of technology and digital development in the country.
Themed “5+ Years of NIDS: Building the Skills to Drive Sustainable Economic Growth and National Development,” the event was organized by the Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, attracting over 1,000 participants, including government representatives, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and students.
The summit featured more than 30 masterclasses, one-on-one “Meet the Employer” sessions, and tech talks designed to equip attendees with essential skills for navigating a rapidly changing digital landscape. A significant segment was dedicated to discussions on technology’s future in Sierra Leone, highlighted by a Presidential Fireside Chat where leaders shared insights on strategic initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration between public and private sectors.
Emphasis was placed on the necessity of building a robust technological infrastructure to support economic development. The Tech Job Fair, organized in partnership with the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, facilitated connections between job seekers and employers in the tech industry.
Key highlights included the unveiling of the EduCube Hub, which aims to enhance educational opportunities for aspiring tech professionals, and the Big 5 Innovation Investment Challenge, encouraging participants to present innovative ideas and support promising startups.
In a groundbreaking announcement, the government revealed plans for a 5G open access network, poised to significantly enhance internet connectivity nationwide. The summit concluded with the Innovators Awards, honoring exceptional contributions to Sierra Leone’s technology sector.
