In a significant advancement for clean energy access, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Sheku A. F. Bangura, has formalized a lease agreement for a 40-megawatt (MW) solar power project with Release by Scatec. This agreement marks a pivotal milestone in the nation’s initiative to enhance its energy sector and improve electricity availability across the country.

Officials highlighted that the project is in line with President Julius Maada Bio’s national agenda focused on modernizing energy infrastructure and fostering sustainable development. “This project exemplifies the government’s dedication to fulfilling its energy commitments,” they stated during the signing ceremony.

The solar power initiative is expected to bolster economic growth by providing reliable and affordable electricity while decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. President Bio has consistently advocated for investments in renewable energy and infrastructure as essential to enhancing the quality of life for Sierra Leoneans. The signing of this agreement is viewed as a vital step toward realizing those objectives.
