Officers at the Criminal Investigation Department in Freetown are currently investigating the mysterious disappearance of 14-year-old Peterlyn Florence Bangura, a former pupil of Henmat International Secondary School.
The case began on January 1, 2025, when Esther Nasratu Bangura, Peterlyn’s mother, received a call from Finda Finfin Favour Davies, the girl’s guardian, who informed her that Peterlyn had drowned at No. 2 Beach River. Reports indicate that Madam Davies took Peterlyn and two other girls to the beach for a holiday outing. However, the circumstances surrounding Peterlyn’s disappearance remain unclear, as her body has yet to be recovered.
According to sources, while the other two girls were rescued by a bystander, Peterlyn went missing. Peterlyn’s mother, upon receiving the distressing news, rushed to the beach with relatives to verify the situation. Upon arrival, they found Madam Davies reading a novel in a seemingly relaxed manner, despite the ongoing crisis.
When Esther confronted Davies about Peterlyn’s whereabouts, Davies reportedly claimed she owed no explanation to anyone. This response led to a confrontation between the two parties, necessitating intervention from the resort owners, who advised them to report to the Adonkia police station around 2 AM.
During initial questioning, police learned that the incident reportedly occurred at 2 PM, yet Madam Davies had not informed the authorities until much later. The conflicting accounts surrounding Peterlyn’s disappearance, along with the odd behavior of the other girls and the absence of the man who allegedly rescued them, have raised suspicions among family members.
As the investigation unfolds, the community awaits clarity on the circumstances of Peterlyn’s disappearance and the actions of those involved.
