Guinea Military Alerts Sierra Leone of Intent to Seize Control of Sokoma Town

By Joseph Momoh, Reporter, D.S

Guinean military forces have issued a warning to their Sierra Leonean counterparts and residents of Sokoma, a town located near Yenga, about their intent to take full control of the area, asserting that it rightfully belongs to Guinea. The warning was conveyed by Hon. Ing. Fallah Tengbeh, the Member of Parliament for Kailahun District, which includes Yenga.

Tensions have escalated recently between Sierra Leonean and Guinean troops in the neighboring Falaba District. Hon. Tengbeh reported that heavily armed Guinean soldiers, equipped with both light and heavy machine guns and full military gear, have already entered Sokoma, where Sierra Leonean forces are currently stationed.

He stressed the urgent need for an increased military presence from Sierra Leone in the area to avert what he describes as a potential loss of territory to Guinea.
