Health For All Coalition Sierra Leone Enhances HPV Vaccine Monitoring in Four Districts

By Joseph Momoh, D.S. Reporter

The Health For All Coalition Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), has successfully conducted a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation initiative for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign.

This assessment took place in four districts—Moyamba, Bo, Kenema, and Kailahun—where the HPV Multi-Age Cohort (MaC) and Switch Dose Campaign are actively being implemented. The primary aim of this exercise was to evaluate progress, identify challenges, and refine strategies to enhance the uptake of the HPV vaccine.

Key stakeholders, including members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on the HPV MaC and Switch Dose Campaign, District Health Management Teams (DHMTs), School Health Clubs, and media representatives, participated in the discussions. This collaborative effort allowed for a thorough review of field experiences and emphasized the crucial role of community structures in promoting awareness about HPV vaccination.

The engagement highlighted the significance of teamwork in safeguarding adolescent girls from cervical cancer and ensuring the effectiveness of the nationwide vaccination initiative.
