Hon. Jawah Sesay, an All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament for Sambaia, Dansogia, and Kalanthuba Chiefdoms, will lead a delegation of MPs to investigate illegal mining activities in Tonkolili District.

This move follows numerous complaints from local residents about severe environmental and health impacts, particularly the contamination of the River Rokel, which has made access to clean drinking water difficult.

Sesay plans to inspect mining companies and excavators to verify their licenses and identify unauthorized operators. The investigation comes after recent unrest in Bumbuna, where six youths were injured in a violent confrontation linked to illegal mining, allegedly involving John B. Cole, the Youth Chairman of Dasogoia Chiefdom.

Local residents have raised concerns about the detrimental effects of illegal mining on their health and water supply, with some community members reportedly complicit in these activities. The investigation aims to hold accountable those responsible for the illegal mining and related violence.
