The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, warmly welcomed a delegation of doctors from the Surgeons in Action Foundation during a recent courtesy visit at the Kingtom Senior Officers’ Mess. This visit precedes a week-long initiative that will provide over 200 free surgical operations at the Police Hospital.

Dr. Immaculada Gimenes Jimenes leads the Spanish medical team, which has been instrumental in supporting Sierra Leone’s healthcare system. During the introduction, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, the Deputy Director and Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, commended the foundation for its ongoing contributions. He highlighted the hospital’s significant advancements over the past three years, noting that modern facilities now enable complex procedures to be performed locally.

In his address, IGP Sellu expressed gratitude for the foundation’s sustained commitment, emphasizing that the hospital’s services extend beyond police personnel to benefit the broader community. “The Police Hospital has evolved into a teaching institution, thanks to upgrades in infrastructure and the introduction of state-of-the-art surgical equipment,” he remarked. He further acknowledged the foundation’s choice of the hospital for the eighth consecutive year, underscoring the positive impact of their efforts on the hospital’s standards.

Dr. Immaculada, in her response, thanked IGP Sellu for the warm reception and praised the exceptional hospitality of the region, which she characterized as the best. She assured attendees of her team’s dedication to delivering high-quality care during the surgical campaign.

The visit concluded with a tour of the Police Hospital, where journalists were shown advanced medical equipment, including a new anesthesia machine donated by the Surgeons in Action Foundation.
