India Celebrates 11th International Day of Yoga in Sierra Leone

Freetown, June 21, 2025 – The High Commission of India in Sierra Leone marked the 11th International Day of Yoga with an enthusiastic celebration at Sierra Palms Resort, aligning with this year’s global theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The event underscored yoga’s role in promoting holistic well-being and environmental harmony.

The celebration highlighted the increasing acceptance of yoga in Sierra Leone, reflecting shared values and strengthening the friendship between India and Sierra Leone. High Commissioner Shri Baisnab Charan Pradhan expressed his joy at the growing number of yoga practitioners from various demographics, noting the practice’s integration into schools, health centers, and public parks. He emphasized that yoga not only enhances individual health but also fosters resilient communities.

The event reaffirmed yoga’s significance as a tool for unity, peace, and holistic wellness, further enhancing the India-Sierra Leone partnership through mutual respect, cooperation, and cultural exchange. The High Commissioner stated that such initiatives promote understanding and solidarity between the two nations.

Following the formal address, participants engaged in a yoga session led by instructors Edward Kekura, Ms. Diya, and other local teachers, adhering to the Common Yoga Protocol. The session also included a meditation segment facilitated by members of the Brahmakumaris spiritual organization.

Organized in collaboration with local yoga institutions, including The Art of Living, Brahmakumaris, ThisIsYoga, and Diya Yoga and Fitness Studio, the event attracted members of the diplomatic community, the Indian diaspora, and local residents, showcasing yoga’s broad appeal.

The celebration received strong support from community partners, including Vinod Khatumal, SV Electricals, Satguru Travels, Jaidev Stores, Kayhira, and Veronica Travels, whose contributions were pivotal to the event’s success.

This occasion reiterated yoga’s universal relevance, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries to promote holistic health and well-being for individuals and communities alike.
