Today, His Excellency B.C. Pradhan, the Indian High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, visited the Hon. Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Her Excellency Nabeela Farida Tunis, at her office on King Harman Road, Freetown.
The courtesy visit aimed to reinforce the enduring diplomatic relationship between India and Sierra Leone, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
During the meeting, the two officials engaged in productive discussions about capacity-building opportunities for staff within the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. They explored collaborative frameworks for knowledge sharing, skills development, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
Minister Tunis emphasized Sierra Leone’s burgeoning tourism potential and extended an invitation to the Indian business community to consider investment opportunities in the country’s tourism and hospitality sectors. She highlighted Sierra Leone’s natural beauty, rich heritage, and its emerging status as a peaceful and authentic destination in West Africa, ready to welcome visitors from India and beyond.
The Hon. Minister pointed out that India’s vibrant travel market, which sees over 50 million Indian tourists traveling abroad annually, presents a significant opportunity for Sierra Leone to establish itself as a new frontier for eco-cultural tourism. She encouraged joint initiatives that could promote cultural festivals, film collaborations, culinary exchanges, and community linkages, thereby strengthening ties between the peoples of both nations.
In response, His Excellency B.C. Pradhan praised the Ministry’s vision under Minister Tunis’ leadership and reaffirmed India’s commitment to collaborating closely with Sierra Leone to foster sustainable tourism growth and cultural cooperation that benefits both countries.
The visit concluded with a shared sense of optimism and mutual respect, as both parties agreed to explore actionable steps to transform their discussions into tangible partnerships that promote tourism, culture, and friendship between India and Sierra Leone.
