Sierra Leone and the Islamic Republic Iran reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic relations on Friday when Iranian Ambassador H.E. Sadati Amiri met with Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh in Freetown. The meeting followed Hon. Conteh’s recent visit to Tehran, where he attended the 14th presidential inauguration ceremony of Iran.
During the meeting, Hon. Conteh expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended to him during his visit, describing it as a “pleasant and enlightening experience” that provided a clearer understanding of the region’s geopolitical realities and Iran’s role. Key issues discussed included Sierra Leone’s current presidency of the United Nations Security Council, strengthening bilateral trade relations, and deepening parliamentary cooperation.
Ambassador Amiri praised Sierra Leone’s constructive approach on the global stage and emphasized the need for continued collaboration in addressing international challenges. Both sides explored ways to enhance legislative partnerships between their respective legislative bodies.
