Dr. Seyyed Abdul Fattah Nawwab, the Supreme Leader’s Representative for Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs in Tehran, reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Sierra Leone during a recent meeting in Tehran.

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Iran, His Excellency Salamu Koroma, focused discussions on Islamic unity, the Hajj pilgrimage, and broader collaboration between the two nations.

Dr. Nawwab highlighted Iran’s expertise in Hajj management, noting the country’s extensive experience in planning the pilgrimage and its commitment to sharing this knowledge. He cited Iran’s development of approximately 2,000 Hajj-related publications over the past 46 years and ongoing educational programs for pilgrimage facilitators.

“This Hajj season presents a vital opportunity to strengthen our relations and address significant Islamic issues,” Dr. Nawwab stated.

Ambassador Koroma expressed gratitude for Iran’s willingness to engage on Hajj-related matters, particularly as the number of Sierra Leonean pilgrims visiting Saudi Arabia continues to rise. He underscored the importance of promoting Islamic unity through cultural and spiritual connections, including potential collaborations between Quran reciters from both countries.

The Ambassador also reiterated Sierra Leone’s commitment to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and support for Palestinian rights. He highlighted Sierra Leone’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and its dedication to global peace and African representation in international decision-making. Furthermore, he noted President Julius Maada Bio’s view of Iran as a trustworthy and friendly partner, emphasizing the need to deepen diplomatic, economic, and educational ties.

In response, Dr. Nawwab assured Ambassador Koroma of Iran’s readiness to assist Sierra Leonean pilgrims, suggesting support to alleviate the economic burdens many face while traveling for Hajj. He also mentioned the potential for expanding student exchange programs and fostering greater collaboration on Islamic issues.
