The Iranian ICT Guild Organization (IIG) has expressed a strong interest in collaborating with Sierra Leone to advance its information and communication technology (ICT) sector. This initiative follows recent engagements led by His Excellency Salamu Koroma, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Iran, who met with IIG officials at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Tehran.
During the meeting, Mr. Abbas Ramedani, General Secretary of the ICT Guild Organization, praised Ambassador Koroma’s proactive approach and outlined several potential areas for cooperation. The IIG, which operates under Iran’s Ministry of Information and Technology, represents over 35,000 members across various ICT domains, including software, hardware, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure.
Mr. Ramedani indicated that the organization, certified by the President of Iran, focuses on the private sector and collaborates with major international digital firms, including Amazon. He highlighted IIG’s readiness to invest in and implement ICT projects in Sierra Leone, emphasizing innovation, capacity building, and infrastructure development.
Mr. Mahdi Soleimani, Senior Consultant at the IIG, further invited Ambassador Koroma to visit their operational centers in Iran. He proposed establishing a joint cooperation framework, which could involve hosting Sierra Leonean ICT investors in Iran or bringing Iranian technology experts to work directly in Sierra Leone. He also mentioned that IIG is prepared to train Sierra Leoneans in coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and mining technology, both virtually and in-person.
In response, Ambassador Koroma welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to fostering partnerships that promote technological growth in Sierra Leone. He encouraged the Iranian delegation to conduct a fact-finding mission to Sierra Leone to explore potential investment and collaboration opportunities.
Ambassador Koroma underscored the importance of engaging with national ICT institutions such as the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) under the Office of the President, and the Ministry of Communications, Technology, and Innovation, as key partners in this initiative.
