The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has successfully wrapped up its 2025 Criminal Session, processing a total of 1,659 inmates across the nation’s correctional facilities.
Among those incarcerated, 1,561 are male and 98 are female. The session, overseen by Court of Appeal Judge Hon. Justice Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens, addressed a variety of criminal cases, delivering judgments grounded in legal evidence and procedural integrity.
This Criminal Session is part of the Judiciary’s commitment to ensuring timely hearings and resolutions within the legal calendar, providing crucial opportunities for inmates awaiting trial or verdict to have their cases addressed.
Looking ahead, the next Criminal Session is scheduled to commence on September 16, 2025, and will be conducted under the newly enacted Criminal Procedure Act of 2025. The Judiciary remains steadfast in its mission to uphold justice as part of its ongoing responsibilities within the legal system.
