The Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court in Freetown has seen notable progress in the ongoing murder case of journalist Samuel Brima Mattia. The primary accused, Joseph Lamin, appeared alongside two alleged accomplices before Magistrate Sahr Kekura, facing serious charges that include conspiracy to commit murder and murder.
Detective Inspector Abubakarr Kargbo of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) provided crucial testimony during the proceedings, elaborating on the thorough investigation conducted by the police. He recounted the meticulous examination of the crime scene at VOPAD Radio Station in Waterloo, underscoring the professionalism of the investigation that yielded substantial evidence against the accused.
Following Inspector Kargbo’s compelling testimony, Magistrate Sahr Kekura denied bail to all three defendants. The court proceedings have been adjourned until March 26, 2025.
The Sierra Leone War Affected Sports Association, along with the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) Secretariat, which represents the late Mattia’s colleagues, has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping members updated on case developments. In a statement, SWASAL expressed optimism regarding the judicial process, stating, “We maintain optimism that the judicial process will ultimately serve justice equitably. Your continued support and attention to this matter are deeply valued.”
