Thousands of supporters in Koinadugu and Falaba Districts have expressed their demand for the All People’s Congress (APC) leadership to designate former Minister of Finance and Bank Governor Dr. Kaifala Marah as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
The supporters reportedly appealed directly to former National Chairman and Leader Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, current National Chairman Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, and the entire National Advisory Committee (NAC) to endorse their request. This development occurred on December 28, 2024, during a jogging event organized by Dr. Kaifala Marah in Kabala Township.
Addressing the issue, a concerned APC member in the United States, who wished to remain anonymous, emphasized that the APC is a democratic party governed by principles outlined in its 2022 Constitution. “The era of selection is over,” the member stated, noting that all positions, including the flagbearer role, should be determined through elections by the delegates.
The party stalwart underscored that neither the current National Chairman nor former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma possesses the authority to unilaterally assign the flagbearer position. “If Dr. Kaifala Marah aspires to lead the APC, he must campaign and earn the trust of the delegates rather than promote divisive rhetoric,” they added. “Koinadugu and Falaba Districts alone cannot secure the flagbearer position for him.”
The member further alleged that during the jogging event, Dr. Kaifala Marah’s supporters issued statements threatening unrest if he is not selected as the flagbearer. “Such statements are deeply troubling and have the potential to undermine the unity of the APC,” they said. “This rhetoric is not befitting of someone who claims to have the party’s interest at heart.”
