The Kono Students Union (KonSU) has publicly contested a recent statement made by Koidu Holdings regarding its scholarship provisions for students in the Kono District.
In a press release dated May 10, 2025, KonSU addressed an excerpt from Koidu Holdings’ corporate social responsibility statement, which asserted that the company “provided scholarships to hundreds of university students and covered tuition fees for all Kono District students enrolled in technical institutions, including the Kono University of Science & Technology.”
KonSU’s National President stated that the union has reviewed this claim and deemed it “factually inaccurate.” Reports from students currently attending the Kono University of Science and Technology indicate that many are independently covering their tuition fees, without any financial support from Koidu Holdings or associated scholarship funds.
In the interest of accountability and transparency, KonSU is formally requesting that Koidu Holdings publicly provide verifiable documentation to substantiate its claims regarding tuition coverage for all Kono District students at the university. The union demands that this information be shared with the KonSU National Executive and made accessible to the public.
KonSU also urged the company to ensure that its corporate communications accurately reflect the realities faced by students and the actual beneficiaries of its initiatives.
The students’ union called on all students and stakeholders to remain peaceful and patient while they pursue this matter through the appropriate channels.
