Justice Isata Sellu Tucker of the High Court in Freetown has sentenced Abubakarr Sesay, a convicted kush dealer, to ten years in prison for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs.

Sesay was found guilty of holding 60.5 grams of kush without legal authorization, in violation of Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act of 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008). The incident leading to his arrest occurred on October 27, 2024, in Freetown.

During his initial court appearance, Sesay pleaded guilty to the charges and requested leniency from the court. In her ruling, Justice Tucker acknowledged his acceptance of responsibility but emphasized the increasing prevalence and destructive nature of drug-related crimes in Sierra Leone. She underscored the judiciary’s role in sending a strong deterrent message to deter similar offenses.

As a result, Justice Tucker sentenced Sesay to ten years at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown. The court also ordered the confiscation and destruction of the seized kush by the relevant authorities.

In her closing remarks, Justice Tucker encouraged Sesay to reflect on his actions and to refrain from engaging in illegal activities upon his release.
