Abdulai Caulker, the National Security Coordinator of the Office of National Security (ONS), announced today that the Lantern Parade has been postponed due to ongoing security concerns. The decision follows the revelation that several individuals associated with the failed coup attempt in November are still at large.
During a press conference held at the Miatta Conference Hall in the Hall-Youyi building, Caulker addressed the nation, emphasizing that the overall security situation in the country remains stable. He stated that the suspension of the Lantern Parade—an event known for drawing large crowds—was a necessary measure to ensure public safety while authorities continue their efforts to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
“The Lantern Parade is a cherished tradition for many citizens,” Caulker noted, “but our top priority must be the safety and security of the public.” He reassured citizens that normal daily activities would proceed as usual despite the postponement of the parade.
As the search for the remaining suspects continues, the public has been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement efforts.
Background:
The Lantern Parade is an annual event celebrated in various communities, often marked by colorful displays and a sense of unity. However, in light of recent security threats linked to a coup attempt, national authorities are taking proactive measures to safeguard the public while ensuring that local traditions can resume when it is safe to do so.
