The Audit Service Sierra Leone has presented a bold request for Le 17.15 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, aiming to strengthen its independence and ensure efficient use of public funds. This significant increase from the 2023 budget of Le 12.5 billion, of which only Le 8.57 billion was disbursed, is crucial for supporting the organization’s growing needs and ambitions.
During a recent budget hearing at the Ministry of Finance, the Audit Service highlighted its achievements, including the completion of a new building and enhanced staff retention and training. The organization has also received positive feedback from Parliament regarding its activities, demonstrating its commitment to transparency and accountability.
The proposed budget increase will be crucial in addressing previous setbacks and supporting the organization’s mission to maintain independence, foster strong partnerships, and ensure proactive service delivery. The establishment of the “IS Audit Unit” has also modernized their capabilities, providing digital access to essential audit information.
The request is now pending approval from the Ministry of Finance as part of the national budget discussions for 2025. If approved, the increased funding will enable the Audit Service Sierra Leone to continue its vital work in promoting transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
