A high-level delegation from the Liberian Ministry of Labour, led by Deputy Minister Honourable Steven S. Kolubah, has embarked on a working visit to Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security (MELSS) to enhance institutional capacity and exchange best practices in labour administration and management.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Senior Permanent Secretary Mr. Joseph Tekman Kanu at the MELSS headquarters in Freetown on Monday, October 27, 2025. During the meeting, Deputy Minister Kolubah expressed sincere gratitude for the hospitality extended to his team since their arrival on Saturday.

He emphasized the historical social, cultural, and governance ties between Liberia and Sierra Leone, noting that the latter was chosen for this visit due to its significant advancements in labour governance. “Like yours, our President desires progress, and we have observed tremendous success here. We seek to understand your systems deeply and explore which practices we can implement back home,” he remarked.

The visit aims to strengthen bilateral collaboration and foster ongoing knowledge exchange between the two West African nations. The Liberian delegation, which includes Assistant Ministers and senior technical officers, is focused on studying Sierra Leone’s administrative and operational frameworks in various areas, including policy planning, monitoring, research, occupational safety and health, social protection, procurement, human resource management, and overall labour administration.

To facilitate hands-on learning, the visiting officials will be paired with their Sierra Leonean counterparts for discussions and institutional learning sessions over the next three days. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing cooperation in promoting decent work, enhancing labour market institutions, and advancing social protection systems for workers in the region.
