In a five-day debate on President Julius Maada Bio’s recent address to Parliament, Majority Leader Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma commended Members of Parliament for their contributions, emphasizing the importance of national unity, economic stability, and agricultural growth.

Nyuma praised the constructive tone of the debate and reiterated the President’s commitment to peace and development. He highlighted Bio’s political journey, particularly his role in advancing democracy during the NPRC era, and underscored the President’s ongoing dedication to national cohesion.

Citing key sections of the presidential speech, Nyuma stressed that peace, stability, and inclusiveness are essential pillars for Sierra Leone’s future. He urged MPs to refrain from politicizing agriculture, a sector that President Bio prioritizes for achieving food self-sufficiency. Acknowledging the efforts of past administrations, Nyuma noted Bio’s distinctive leadership in agriculture, which has attracted substantial donor support. He called for cross-party collaboration among MPs to advance agricultural and economic initiatives.

Addressing economic concerns, Nyuma lauded the National Revenue Authority’s achievements in revenue mobilization, contrasting it with what he termed an “economic mess” inherited from the previous administration. He asserted that the current government is steering Sierra Leone toward recovery, bolstered by international donor confidence. Despite ongoing hardships faced by many Sierra Leoneans, Nyuma contended that President Bio’s administration is making measurable progress.

Additionally, he highlighted strides in human capital development, particularly in education, which he claimed have improved Sierra Leone’s international standing. In closing, Nyuma urged MPs to prioritize the nation’s interests and reaffirmed the need for unity and commitment to Sierra Leone’s forward trajectory.
