A disturbing video circulating on social media has brought to light the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl by her stepfather. Reports suggest that the incident involved the daughter of the suspect’s wife.
Sierra Leone has faced a troubling surge in cases of child sexual abuse in recent years. In response to this crisis, President Maada Bio previously declared a national emergency concerning rape and sexual offenses against minors. Among the measures introduced was a provision for life imprisonment for offenders, aimed at both punishing those guilty of such crimes and deterring future incidents.
Despite these efforts, the persistence of sexual abuse cases against children raises significant concerns about the effectiveness of the current legal framework and protective measures in place.
