Mohamed Amara, a 32-year-old man, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura on three counts related to an alleged attack on Sallia Kallon. The charges include wounding with intent, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, all contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
According to the particulars of the offence, on February 3, 2025, in Charlotte Village, Western Area Rural of Freetown, Amara allegedly inflicted wounds on Kallon with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The second and third counts indicate that on the same date and location, the accused maliciously wounded and assaulted Kallon, resulting in actual bodily harm.
During the hearing, when the charges were read and explained to Amara, no plea was entered. The prosecutor, Sergeant Florence M. Wilson, subsequently closed her case, prompting the court to withdraw the file for ruling.
After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, Magistrate Bangura ruled that a prima facie case had been established and committed the matter to the High Court for trial.
Magistrate Bangura granted bail to Amara in the sum of Le30,000, with two sureties in a like amount. The sureties must be responsible citizens and present valid identity cards showing their addresses in Freetown. The bail is subject to approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
