A 33-year-old man, Momoh Fofanah, has been granted bail in the sum of Five Hundred Leones (Le500) after spending four months in custody. Fofanah was remanded by Magistrate Sahr Kakura of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 for allegedly possessing explosive and chemical weapons.
Fofanah faces two serious charges. The first charge claims he unlawfully provided funds for the transportation of chemical weapons, violating Section 28(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Act, 2024 (Act No. 4 of 2024). The second charge involves possession of firearms without a license, contravening Section 22(1) of the Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition Act, 2023 (Act No. 24 of 2023).
According to court records, on October 23, 2024, in Gendema Town, Fofanah allegedly funded the transportation of ninety-six explosive substances labeled as Max Trac from Bo Town to Liberia without lawful authorization. On the same day and location, he was reportedly found in possession of these explosives without a valid license.
After four months in custody, Fofanah’s legal counsel, Chenor Bah, renewed a bail application on his behalf, which was granted by Magistrate Kakura. The case is scheduled to be adjourned to Friday, May 16, 2025.
